You never could guess, so I will tell you.
As soon as they saw the brook they ran to it. They ran as fast as ever they could go.
They rushed right into the water.
“Cluck, cluck! Cluck, cluck! Come back! Come back!” called the old hen. “Come back, come back to your mother!”
But they did not come back.
They did not even listen.
They sailed clear across the stream.
They sailed up stream and they sailed down stream.
But they did not come back to their mother.
She could only run up and down the bank, looking and calling.
