Served in merchant service; 2 lieut. of the Enterprise 1848–9; led a sledge party from Port Leopold to east coast of Prince Regent’s Inlet; 2 lieut. of the Resolute 1850–1; his sketches of Arctic scenery at Port Leopold were published by Ackerman 1849; assisted in painting the Arctic panorama in Leicester square London; retired commander 1 July 1864. d. Woolwich March-June 1871.
