Farnworth 20 May 1792; partner with his brother John Crompton in Farnworth Mills, sole proprietor 1835 to death; contrived several mechanical appliances for utilising fibres hitherto considered unsuitable for being made into paper; became an extensive newspaper proprietor; proprietor of the Morning Post; erected very large cotton mill at Prestolee near Farnworth about 1833. d. the Hassels, Sandy, Beds. 3 Sep. 1858.
