D. Rice 1836; made a great hit as Newman Noggs in Nicholas Nickleby at City of London theatre 1838; acted at the Victoria; went to Australia 1842 where he played to his death. d. of heart disease in a cab in Melbourne on his way to the opera house to play 17 Aug. 1875.
