Belfast 1854, purchased the business 1857, took in Mr. Woolff as a partner 1862; made improvements in length, flatness of bottom and squareness of bilge in build of ships, which became known as Belfast bottoms; built for the government the Lynx and Algerine gun vessels and the Hecla store and torpedo ship 3360 tons; built ships for all the great ocean lines. d. 1866.
