But he did not dare.
"Moira, I—I've got to go out for awhile—a matter of duty——"
"Now?" she faltered.
"I must. An engagement. I'm in honor bound——"
Now really alarmed, she caught him by the elbows and looked into his eyes.
"An engagement—to-night! And to-morrow——?"
His meaning seemed to come to her with a rush.
