(Χείρων) and
(Σείληνος), the diphthong ει is represented by its other member Ι. On the other hand, we find
for Ἰολέως (B.M. B 301). The general vagueness of the Attic craftsmen’s orthography is well illustrated by Kretschmer in the word Ὀδυσσεύς, which is not only invariably spelled with a Λ, reminding us of the Latin form Ulixes, but occurs in the following different forms[[2222]]:— 15
