Place the cutting edge of barrel over the centre of the root or weed and with a downward pressure, giving at the same time a turn of the wrist. Upon withdrawing the cutter from the lawn a plug of soil together with the root or weed will be found in the barrel; remove this by means of the plunger, withdraw the weed from the plug of soil, and the plug may then be replaced in the ground, so filling up the hole made by the implement.
