Oil for Lamps, “Hydrysol”—
Per case of 4 tins, containing 5 gals... ... ... ...5/0
Cases and tins charged, 5/0 allowed for when returned.

Notice.—This Oil is delivered by the Hydrosol Company, and theycollect Empties, which should not be returned to Harrods.

Customers are respectfully asked, before signing for Drum, Can, orCask, to make certain that it is in a perfect condition and notleaking, as the Company do not hold themselves responsible for anyloss after the cans and casks have been accepted and signed for bythe Railway Companies and Carriers; and customers residing inLondon are recommended not to order these Oils in casks, as thedifficulty the carriers experience in delivering them down area stepsor underground cellars renders the casks liable to leakage, whichcannot always be stopped in time to prevent loss. Any that aredelivered will be at Consignee’s own risk.

Complaints are frequently received of the quality of the oil supplied, but, upon investigation, it is found in nearly every case that the lampis in fault. Customers making use of Kerosene or Crystal Oil forlamps are recommended to observe the following precautions. Byso doing the liability to explosion will be avoided, and the best lightobtained.

No lamp should be used in which there is a possibility of the oil cominginto contact with the flame. The well should not be filled too full.

When a lamp has been unused for a considerable time, the wellshould be drained and the whole thoroughly cleaned, filled withfresh oil, and fitted with a fresh dry wick.

Special attention should be paid to the size and quality of the wick, which should exactly fit the burner (so as to move up and downeasily, but not loosely), and should be of soft texture, and not toohighly plaited.

When putting out a lamp, care should be taken not to screw down thewick low enough to allow any of the charred portion to fall intothe well.

The lamp should not be blown out, but the wick should be turneddown very low and left to go out.

Mineral Oils are accepted by Railway Companies on the days specifiedbelow, and all orders should reach the Stores on the day previous toensure dispatch.
