A contemporary document (Summaria Declaratio Bullæ Indulgentiarum Ecclesiæ Xanctonensi concessarum, 1482) tells us that the price in Rome for those in the ordinary form was nearly three florins. In Germany, early in the sixteenth century, the Beichtbriefe were sold at a quarter of a gulden apiece (Gröne, Tetzel und Luther, p. 196).
