A little bird once met another bird,
And whistled to her, “Will you be my mate?”
With fluttering wings she twittered, “How absurd!
Oh, what a silly pate!”
And off into a distant tree she flew,
To find concealment in the shady cover;
And passed the hours in slily peeping through
At her rejected lover.
