[IN A GONDOLA.]

Sick of palazzi and of churches tired;

Here let me rest, and for awhile forget

The "lions" of the City of the Sea!

My friend to see some masterpiece has gone,

When he returns he will of Titian talk,

Of Veronese will he babble on,

Gush o'er Bassano, rave o'er Tintoret!

While he's away I'll rest and muse in peace,
