The Irish Guards.

The Harp and Crown. The Star of the Order of St. Patrick.

By an Army Order (No. 77, April, 1900), "Her Majesty the Queen, having deemed it desirable to commemorate the bravery shown by the Irish regiments in the recent operations in South Africa, has been graciously pleased to command that an Irish regiment of Foot Guards be formed. This regiment will be designated 'The Irish Guards.'"

The details of the Uniform have not yet been fully settled; the Harp and Crown appear on the buttons, and the Shamrock on the collar, while the regimental badge is the Star of the Order of St. Patrick.

The Irish Guards commenced their public service as the guard of honour at the reception by H.R.H. the Prince of Wales, at Paddington, of Lord Roberts, the Commander-in-Chief, on the occasion of his return from the field of operations in South Africa, 1899-190[?].
