Uniform.—1st Batt., Red with Yellow facings (the latter probably from formation, but certainly since 1742 till 1881 (?)). 2nd Batt., Red and Purple facings (in 1755); Scarlet and "lily"-White (in 1815). Now Scarlet and White facings for both Batts.

Regimental Badges.—"The Sphinx," for "Egypt" (1801): the honour was won by the 1st Batt. Also (since territorial re-organisation) "The Red Rose of Lancaster."

Nicknames.—1st Batt., "The Triple X's," or "The Three Tens" (the regimental number). 2nd Batt., "The Lily-Whites" (from the facings).
