This remarkable collection was sold by auction under the direction of the well-known firm of Payne & Foss, of Pall Mall; it occupied 220 days in its dispersion, and was sold by the following auctioneers, viz.: Sotheby and Sons (parts 1, 2, 3, 9, 10); Evans (parts 4, 6, 7, 8, 11); and Wheatley (parts 5 and 12). The catalogue contained 52,676 lots, comprising 119,613 volumes. They cost Mr. Heber £43,891 10s. 6d., and realized £56,777 18s. 6d.
