"And what are your plans?"
"I mean to go to Paris. There I have a friend who I think will help me—an American with whom I became acquainted on the voyage over."
"I suppose you are poorly provided with money?"
"I have less than two francs left," Frank acknowledged.
The merchant looked amazed.
"You were actually reduced to that?" he exclaimed.
"Yes, sir."
"How did you expect to get to Paris?"
Frank smiled.
