"Yes, I didn't have any cards. So I came right up. It's getting dark and nobody saw me——"
The editor frowned and moved uneasily
"You're alone, aren't you?" she asked.
"The others have all gone to supper, I believe."
"Yes, I waited 'til they left. I watched from the Square 'til I saw them go."
"Why?" he asked sharply.
