Prodigious signs, and many a fearful sight

Glare in the heavens; bright suns to darkness turn,

And moons and stars, all clothed in sackcloth, mourn—

Well may the earth with horrid murmurs quake,

When even the powers of Heaven themselves shall shake.

With fervent heat the elements shall flow,

Yon azure vault with ruddy vengeance glow;

Then when the guilty world dissolves for fear,

Then shall you see the Son of Man appear;
