With him Elijah, who sublimely rode

A car of lightning to the throne of God;

Thus Law and Prophets their perfection find

In Him, the hope, the price of lost mankind;

Thus Christ, and Moses, and Elias came,

Their persons different, but their views the same.

Unrivall’d beauties deck’d the Saviour’s face,

His dazzling form the circling glories grace;

His seamless coat, than falling snows more white,

Enclosed a pillar of transparent light.
