How the children chatter in Make-Believe,
Just as at home they do!
How close they cuddle, with laugh and kiss,
To tell their secrets, nor ever miss
Aught else if they have but you!
All the people you love are in Make-Believe,
The living, and those called dead;
And all the people you’d like to know—
The wise of the earth, both high and low,
And the heroes of days long fled.
