Kaid. ‘Down with him.’ Culprit is licked, and sings out, ‘I came to pick up anything that was abandoned.’ (More stripes.)
Culprit. ‘I came to rob.’ (The soldiers stop.)
Kaid. ‘So you came to rob! Beat him again.’
Culprit. ‘I will never commit a theft again.’
Kaid. ‘No: that you shall not.’ (After some more stripes, the poor wretch is led off prisoner.)
