XXXI.
For Hope and Memory twin sisters are,
Born in a moment ’mid the present gloom,
Bringing their soft illusions from afar,
And cheering e’en the darkness of the tomb.
Come to my heart, ye lovely sisters, come!
And so my wond’ring senses all entrance
With pictures of my past and future home,
That I may take one life-enduring glance,
Nor cease till I have gain’d my blest inheritance!
