When years passed by and the white men in other places had bloody wars with the Indians, the Quakers among them were not harmed. The white feather of peace was placed over the door of every house where Quakers were living. That was the Red Man's sign for these words:
"No one here must meet with any harm. The Red Man is his friend."
CHAPTER XIII
LORD BALTIMORE AND THE CATHOLICS
"There are three churches in our village. Look, Uncle Sam, we can see the spires of all of them lighted by the sunset."
"The sun does not have any favorites," was the reply. "He treats all alike."
"Let me see. One is the Methodist, another the Congregational, and the third is the Catholic church," Joe went on.
"They have different names, yet they were all built for one use,—the worship of God."
Uncle Sam spoke softly as he looked from Joe to his sister.
