He hid his face in his hands again.

Furnival's face emerged angry.

"Then why on earth didn't you tell me? I asked you. Why couldn't you tell me what she was like?"

"You don't tell," said Straker.

Furnival groaned. "I can't make it out now. It's not as if she hadn't got a t-t-temperament."
