The mourners’ choral dirge is heard to flow.

He, desolate, who could not long endure

This widowed world, forsook the upper air,

Seeking for death, pale sorrow’s only cure;

But found Elysian groves, and found her there,

With immortality—by love enjoyed,

To meaner hopes and hearts a cheerless void.

TO THE LADY FANNY PROBY.
