The English Library sets two aims especially before itself:—
First—To issue its volumes simultaneously with the appearance of the same works in England and America; and
Second—To compress these works (wherever it is possible without sacrifice of the legibility of the type) into One Volume.
English and American travellers and English-speaking residents on the Continent will appreciate the opportunity thus afforded to obtain in a convenient form, and at a moderate price, new books as rapidly as they are issued at home, without being forced to wait until they have ceased to be novelties.
