In cases where several shunt or compound wound direct current machines are operating in parallel, either on two wire or three wire systems, a good arrangement for voltage regulation and line drop compensation is obtained by using this regulator and a separate exciter. The compensating shunt as well as pressure wires can be used to maintain a constant pressure at the center of distribution.
Ques. How is this automatic locking of the pawl obtained?
Ans. By having a lip G on the under side of the pawl strike a finger H fastened to the bearings in front of the ratchet wheel.
The pawl is thus raised just before it reaches the limit of its clockwise travel sufficient to be locked by its trigger.
