TRANSLATION
The Mount is convulsed; the surging fire
Sweeps o’er the height of Kui-hana-lei;
The rocks ablaze; the hillocks explode
Far out by Ax-quarry, aye, and beyond,
Where gleefully chirped the pololei,
And the grasshopper trilled on the mountain
A resonant intermittent cry.
