Apparently the original manuscript dedicated by its author to Don Manuel Luis de Guzman, Manrique de Zuñiga, Davila y Osorio, marquis de Ayamonte and Villamanrique, count of Lepe, marquis of Astorga, count of Trastamara and Santa Martha, duke of Aguiar, count of Colle (sic) and Villalobos, marquis of Velada and San Roman, &a., the dedicatory epistle at fol. 2 being dated: “Ayamonte y Octubre 15 de 1689.” At the end of the work (fol. 123) is a table of contents.

Original Documents left by [Don Antonio de] Cordova upon the summit of the “Mountain of the Cross” at port Gallant, in the Strait of Magalhanes, in the years 1786-89; also a copy of one previously left on the same spot by Mr. de Bougainville in 1767; found by Commr. Stokes of H.M.S. Beagle, March 1827, rolled up in a paper containing a small Spanish coin.
Begins with a letter from F. Beaufort, dated Admiralty Office, 23 May 1832, to Henry Ellis, Esqre., at that time Principal Librarian of the British Museum, presenting the above documents.
