Papers of Card. Gualterio: Letters from F. L. de La Cerda and Dn. Nicolas de Cordova y de la Zerda, 1706-25. Those by the former are mostly in cipher, with decipherings in the hand of the Cardinal’s secretary, and range between the 2nd of July 1706 and the 14th of April 1710. At fol. 248 begin the original drafts of the Cardinal’s Italian letters to the Duke [of Medina Celi] between the 8th of February and April 1710, including one to the Marquis Rinucini and another to Signor Barone del Nero, “inviato de S. A. R. di Toscana, in Madrid.” The rest of the volume (ff. 284-306) contains principally letters of Don Nicolas de Cordoba y de la Zerda (sic), tenth duke of Medina Celi, from the 24th of June 1715 to the 25th of August 1725. At fol. 307 is also the draft of an Italian letter, addressed by Cardinal Gualterio to the Duke of Veraguas and to the Count of Aguilar conjointly (Rome, 2 Feb. 1717), and of another to the Duke only (Rome, 27 Apr. 1717).
