To light them both to darkness down, became

As stars to lead together to the skies,

By such a doom as expiates his sin,

And her pure innocence lets sooner in

To that eternal bliss where, side by side,

They reign at His right hand for whom they died.

While I, convicted in my own despite

Thus to bear witness to the eternal light

Of which I lost, and they have won the crown,
