Mr. Rashdall's theory has, however, already been called in question by Mr. A.F. Leach, who (National Review, September 1896) asserts decisively that there were schools at Oxford even before Guimond's time, and that "Oxford is as much, there is every reason to believe, a natural growth from the schools and schoolmasters of St. Frideswide's as Paris from those of Notre Dame."

Prior Robert published an abridgment of Pliny, addressed "to the studious, and especially to those in cloisters and schools." He also published another work on Jacob's Marriage, which he said he had written when he was himself a scholar and "a regent master."
