You, Theodorus, with surprizing Art,
Once Consul, and thrice Prefect of the City,
Adorn’d this shining Fane with lofty Pillars,
Sacred to Fortune, Goddess of the City.
Calliades, General of the Byzantian Army, plac’d the Statues of Byzas and Phidalia in the Basilica, with this Inscription upon them:
Calliades erected here the Statues
Of Byzas, and his lov’d Phidalia.
And on the Statue of Phidalia:
This is the Statue of the fair Phidalia
Young Byzas’ Wife, the Work of Bupalus.
