The scene is Lyons at the outbreak of the French Revolution. The father of the young hero is accused of being in sympathy with the aristocrats, whence come innumerable perilous situations which are turned to the boy’s advantage by his own ingenuity and coolness. An important feature of the book is that any child who reads the story, while being thoroughly interested in the plot, will also get an excellent, authentic picture of the French Revolution.
