"Well?" asked the aunt.
"Oh!" cried Muriel. She started. "Aunt Ethel!"
"Well?"
"You frightened me," Muriel explained. "I didn't see you until you spoke."
"Well?" persisted Mrs. Newberry.

Ethel became diplomatic:
