2974. In most cases moderate exercise is advantageous before bathing, but not exercise of a violent kind.


2975. Hints about Children.—The attempt to harden children by exposure to too great a degree of cold, is of the most injurious nature.


2976. For infants and young children, it is clear that water of a lower temperature than what feels cool to the hand of the nurse should be used; but not cold water.


2977. Cold bathing either produces acute diseases of the lungs, which are then very sensible to external impressions, or disease of the digestive organs, leading to disease of the mesenteric glands, scrofula, water in the brain, or, if they survive a few years, to early consumption.


2978. Wet the Head.—It is a good rule to wet the head before taking a plunge or a bath.
