Our being and identity; conjoins

By mystic sympathies, and secret links,

Our spirits unto others. Little knows

Philosophy, though brightly on advance,

About the inner world, the world of mind.

The earth’s deep crust she pierced hath, and made

Mankind astonished at its boundless age;

Her outstretched hand has spanned the wilds of space,

And shewn the distance infinite of stars;

Her hawk-like glance hath downward looked, and seen
