Green Bag Enquiry.

A sealed bag of documents laid on the table of the House of Commons by the Government in 1817, and said to contain papers justifying the double suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act which had taken place during the year. A committee, chosen entirely from the supporters of the Government, was appointed to investigate its contents.

Green Mountain Boys.

An organized band of settlers in Vermont, formed in 1773 to resist the encroachments of the New Yorkers, who claimed Vermont as part of the territory of that State under the charter of Charles II.

Green Mountain State.

The popular name of the State of Vermont, U.S.A.

Greenback Party.

A party formed about 1874 in the United States, which advocated the payment of the national debt in paper money. It ceased to exist in 1884.
