IN the Rheingan standeth Aix,

And in Aix is La Chapelle;

On a royal marble daïs,

Underneath a vaulted dome,

With his feet upon a tomb,

Sits a dread and fearsome Thing

Dead two hundred years! a King

On his throne sits Charlemagne
