With jibes and jokes they daily beset me,

But none of these things do I suffer to fret me;

I smile at all they can do or say—

Don’t forget the ducats, I pray!

Ten hours each day I spend at the college,

Drinking at the fount of knowledge,

And when the lectures come to an end,

The rest in private study I spend.

The Professors express great gratification

Only they hope I will use moderation,
