In 1730 there appeared at Annapolis, Sot-weed Redivivus, or the Planter’s Looking-glass, in burlesque verse, calculated for the meridian of Maryland, by E. C., Gent. Mr. Tyler throws some doubt upon the profession of the same authorship conveyed in the title, because it is destitute of the wit shown in the other. The next year (1731) the earlier poem is said to have been reprinted at Annapolis with another on Bacon’s Rebellion. (Hist. Mag., iv. 153.) The Sot-weed Factor was again reprinted with a glossary in Shea’s Early Southern Tracts, 1866, edited by Brantz Mayer. There is a copy of the original edition in Harvard College library [12365.14].
