Billiards at Oxford.
There was a clash of billiard balls by night,
And University had gathered then
Her members for a handicap, and bright
The lamps shone o’er fair tables and dark men;
A hundred went up rapidly; and when
The clock struck nine a wild tumultuous yell
Bade them play on until the hour of ten
Brought into sound the evening chapel bell;
But hush! hark! a deep voice strikes like a rising knell.
