He who hath bent him o’er the bed

On which some dreamer rests his head,

Before the housemaid’s tapping fingers

Disturb the room where slumber lingers,

May possibly have pondered o’er

The fitful start and vacant snore;

And wondered, as his vision caught

The working of the slumberer’s thought,

How different a turn ’twould take

When he should be once more awake.
