Mr. Stanley went to found
A Congo trading station.
The Stars and Stripes he hoisted up,
And cried “No annexation.”
But M. de Brazza came along,
The natives to “canoodle;”
He gave them “tricolours” all round,
And sang out “Cock-a-doodle!”
Mr. Stanley, very cross,
Called de Brazza “Poodle!”
