About 1800 a satirical parody on this Ode was published anonymously, of which unfortunately no copy can now be traced. It contained the following lines:—

Ode to the Passions.

“Revenge impatient rose;

He threw his boxing gloves in haste away,

And, with a knowing look,

A set of Scottish bagpipes took,

And blew a strain so full of fears,

The very Passions melt in tears.
