About 1800 a satirical parody on this Ode was published anonymously, of which unfortunately no copy can now be traced. It contained the following lines:—
Ode to the Passions.
“Revenge impatient rose;
He threw his boxing gloves in haste away,
And, with a knowing look,
A set of Scottish bagpipes took,
And blew a strain so full of fears,
The very Passions melt in tears.
