Why Not Give a Cross Word Puzzle Party?
Special party boards may be obtained separately, printed on stiff cardboard. Several copies of the same puzzle are ideal for a party.
In solving the puzzles in this book, you may possibly have thought it good fun to stage a Cross Word Puzzle Party. Heretofore, this called for one copy of The Cross Word Puzzle Book for each person. But this is rather expensive, unless you plan to give a great many parties.
Furthermore, it is almost certain that at least one person in your party has done all or most of the puzzles in this book and, therefore, would have an unfair advantage in the contest.
Responding to a general request, therefore, we have prepared three puzzles specially constructed by the editors of this book for party use, and printed separately on stiff cardboard (8×12 inches). In other words, everyone at a party can now have his own puzzle, and a contest can be arranged to see who will be the first to turn in a perfect solution.
This was first done at the Cross Word Puzzle Convention held at the Ambassador Hotel, New York, on May 18, 1924. Everybody there agreed that it was an intensely exciting and enjoyable party. A contest of this sort can be made really thrilling by scoring each contestant’s time with a stop-watch and noting the number of errors. The winner is the first person turning in a 100 per cent correct solution.
The price per puzzle (diagram and definitions) printed on stiff board (so that you won’t have to lean on a book or table) is ten cents. Each puzzle comes in an individually sealed envelope. You may order as many or as few as you require for your party. Merely give the letter (A, B or C) of the puzzle (or puzzles) you wish, and state the quantity of each. Send ten cents for each copy you order. They will be sent to you post-paid. They may be had only direct from the publishers.
These puzzles come in three grades of difficulty: Puzzle A—Easy, Puzzle B—Moderately Difficult, and Puzzle C—Difficult. Choose the one you think best adapted to the individuals who will be at your party. The price is the same: ten cents for each card in a sealed envelope.
