31When therefore he was gone out, Jesus says: Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. 32If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and will straightway glorify him. 33Children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye will seek me; and as I said to the Jews, whither I go ye can not come, so now I say to you. 34A new commandment I give to you, that ye love one another; as I loved you, that ye also love one another. 35By this shall all know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one toward another.

36Simon Peter says to him: Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him: Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterward. 37Peter says to him: Lord, why can not I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thee. 38Jesus answers: Wilt thou lay down thy life for me? Verily, verily, I say to thee, a cock will not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

XIV. Let not your heart be troubled. Believe on God, and believe on me[1]. 2In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; because I go to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will receive you to myself; that where I am ye may be also. 4And ye know the way whither I go.

5Thomas says to him: Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how do we know the way? 6Jesus says to him: I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, but by me. 7If ye knew me, ye would know my Father also; and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

8Philip says to him: Lord, show us the Father, and it suffices us. 9Jesus says to him: Am I so long time with you, and dost thou not know me, Philip? He that has seen me has seen the Father; and how sayest thou: Show us the Father? 10Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak to you I speak not of myself; but the Father who dwells in me, he does the works. 11Believe me, that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; or else believe for the very works' sake.

12Verily, verily, I say to you, he that believes on me, the works that I do he shall do also, and greater than these shall he do, because I go to the Father. 13And whatever ye shall ask in my name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.

15If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16And I will ask of the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may be with you forever; 17the Spirit of truth, whom the world can not receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him; but ye know him, because he abides with you, and shall be in you. 18I will not leave you bereaved[18]; I will come to you.

19Yet a little while, and the world sees me no more; but ye see me; because I live, ye shall live also. 20In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. 21He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me; and he that loves me shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

22Judas says to him (not Iscariot): Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself to us, and not to the world? 23Jesus answered and said to him: If any one loves me, he will keep my word; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our abode with him. 24He that loves me not, keeps not my words; and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.

25These things have I spoken to you, while abiding with you. 26But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things which I said to you.
