8Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour; 9whom resist, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
10But the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after ye have suffered a little while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you. 11To him be the glory, and the dominion, forever and ever. Amen.
12By Silvanus, the faithful brother, as I consider, I wrote to you in few words, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God, wherein ye stand.
13The [church that is] in Babylon, chosen with you, salutes you[13]; and Mark, my son.
14Salute one another with a kiss of love. Peace to you all, that are in Christ.
[THE SECOND GENERAL LETTER OF PETER.]
I. Simon PETER, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: 2Grace and peace be multiplied to you, in the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.
3Seeing that his divine power has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and might; 4through which he has given us exceeding great and precious promises, that by these ye may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world through lust; 5yea for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith fortitude; and to fortitude, knowledge[5]; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, patience; and to patience, godliness; 7and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8For if these things are in you, and abound, they cause that ye shall not be inactive nor unfruitful in attaining to the full knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9But he that lacks these things is blind, not seeing afar off, having forgotten the cleansing away of his old sins.
10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure; for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall. 11For so shall be richly ministered to you the entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
