12And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne. And books were opened; and another book was opened, which is [the book] of life; and the dead were judged out of the things written in the books, according to their works. 13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and the underworld gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged each one according to their works.

14And death and the underworld were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15And if any one was not found written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire.

XXI. And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and the sea is no more.

2And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice out of the throne, saying: Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and GOD-WITH-THEM[3] himself will be their God. 4And he will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more, nor shall mourning, nor crying, nor pain be any more; because the former things are passed away.

5And he who sat upon the throne said: Behold, I make all things new. And he says: Write; because these words are faithful and true.

6And he said to me: It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to him that thirsts, of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7He that overcomes shall inherit these things; and I will be to him a God, and he shall be to me a son. 8But the fearful, and unbelieving, and defiled with abominations, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all the liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

9And there came one from among the seven angels, who have the seven cups full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying: Come hither; I will show thee the bride, the wife of the Lamb. 10And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, 11having the glory of God; her luminary like to a most precious stone, as it were to a jasper stone, clear as crystal; 12having a wall great and high; having twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel; 13on the east three gates, and on the north three gates, and on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. 14And the wall of the city had twelve foundation-stones, and on them twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

15And he who talked with me had a golden reed for a measure, that he might measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. 16And the city lies foursquare, and its length is as great as the breadth. And he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length, and the breadth, and the height of it are equal.

17And he measured the wall thereof, a hundred and forty-four cubits, the measure of a man, which is that of an angel. 18And the structure of its wall was jasper; and the city was pure gold, like to pure glass. 19The foundation-stones of the wall of the city were adorned with every precious stone. The first foundation-stone was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, emerald; 20the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprasus; the eleventh, hyacinth; the twelfth, amethyst. 21And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; each several gate was of one pearl; and the street of the city was pure gold, as transparent glass.

22And I saw in it no temple; for the Lord God the Almighty is its temple, and the Lamb.
