¹⁸And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying: All power was given to me in heaven and on earth. ¹⁹Go therefore, and disciple all the nations, immersing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; ²⁰teaching them to observe all things, whatever I commanded you. And, behold, I am with you alway, unto the end of the world.

[THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MARK.]

I. The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, Son of God, ²as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: Behold, I send forth my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way; ³the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. ⁴John came immersing in the wilderness, and preaching the immersion of repentance unto remission of sins. ⁵And there went out to him all the country of Judæa, and all they of Jerusalem; and they were immersed by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁶And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a leathern girdle about his loins, and ate locusts and wild honey. ⁷And he preached, saying: There comes after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. ⁸I indeed immersed you in water; but he will immerse you in the Holy Spirit.

⁹And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was immersed by John in the Jordan. ¹⁰And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens parted, and the Spirit as a dove descending upon him. ¹¹And there came a voice out of heaven: Thou art my beloved son; in thee I am well pleased.

¹²And immediately the Spirit drives him forth into the wilderness. ¹³And he was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to him.

¹⁴And after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee, publishing the good news of the kingdom of God^[14], ¹⁵and saying: The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the good news.

¹⁶And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon, and Andrew, Simon's brother, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. ¹⁷And Jesus said to them: Come after me, and I will cause you to become fishers of men. ¹⁸And immediately leaving the nets, they followed him.

¹⁹And going a little further, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending the nets. ²⁰And straightway he called them; and leaving their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, they went after him.
